Long time ago in the olden days before the coming of the colonial masters , our forefathers had their own methods of choosing their leader through various  traditional means .

These means may be though 

  • Royal linage by birth
  • Consultation with the elders
  • Divination through the oracles
  • Voting by the selected elders of the society usually called the king makers

Examples Of Traditional Leaders in Nigeria are 

  • Obas : Obas are commonly found in Yoruba land and towards the extreme end of Benin . The tile of such ona is always shown in such a way that the name of the oba is called like Ooni of Ife , Oba of Lagos , Alafin of Oyo , Awujale of Ijebuland , Alake of Egbaland etc
  • Eze : Thse royal fathers are commonly  found in IGBO LAND
  • Emirs of Kano
  • Seriki in The North
  • Ooni in the west
