The way leaders are chosen in the locality

In Yoruba land , a king does not die but ascend into the ceilings ( Oba waja ) to meet his great predecessors . Once that  it is noticed  that the king is no longer alive , the king makers are always sent for so that the preparations for selecting or choosing another king can commence  .

What are the ways by which new kings are chosen ?

  • The king makers are sent for so that the demise of the old king can be announced officially .
  • Members  of royal ruling families are sent for by the king makers so that each royal family can present someone that they think should be the next king
  • Necessary consultations are made to make the final selections .
  • Oracles or  the ancestral powers are consulted before the final selections are made

Ways by which leaders emerge

  • By birth if someone is born into a royal family
  • By election , most especially during election periods when political leaders are voted into offices
  • By appointments when president or governor appoint those people that will work with him when he or she  has been voted into office.
