Ways Of Making more People Own Houses In Nigeria

To build a house in Nigeria is not a child’s play because it is a capital intensive project that will take a lot of time , dedication and perseverance .

How can government encourage its citizens to own a private house for residential or commercial purpose ?

How To Motivate More Nigerians To Own A House

  • Savings lead to investments and investments are small businesses . Government and employers of labour should encourage their members of staff to start saving . By encouraging savings through cooperative societies or credit and thrift societies , members of staff can save enough to buy a piece of land and start building a house
  • People should make an investigation on how to take advantage of the different housing schemes which the government has set
  • Government should establish more housing schemes and operate them in such a way that people can pay by installments over a period of time
  • Government should intervene in the issue of land grabbers and outlaw them .
  • Government should advertise its various housing schemes, so that more people will know about them and take advantage of them
  • Banks and mortgage institutions, that have favorable housing schemes, should advertise their arrangements widely so that people can patronize The conditions must not be so harsh as to discourage people from getting loans from them.
  • Government should plan cities, towns and villages properly and provide social amenities everywhere, so that people will find almost everywhere desirable to live in. This will make houses cheaper than what they used to be in the cities now
  • Government should make it very easy for  citizens to obtain all necessary documents to authenticate land ownership in Nigeria like Certificate of Occupancy
  • Government should ensure that those who manufacture and sell building materials sell at affordable prices, so that more people can buy..
  • Government should encourage the use of cheaper local building Material
