As soon as a child is born, he or she begins to interact with the environment. For the child to develop into a full grown healthy and useful adult, the child must be able to keep his or her body and environment clean.

This is called personal hygiene. Personal Hygiene involves eating hygienically prepared food.

Keeping our body clean includes the following:
(1) Bathing

(2) Brushing our teeth in the morning and evening.

(3) Regular washing of our hands before and after eating.

(4) Good use of toilet facilities.

We could also keep our environment clean by:

(1) Sweeping the surroundings regularly.

(2) Cutting the bushes around the house

(3) Keeping our toilet clean

(4) Using a good refuse disposal method

(5) High dusting.

(6) Using a good drainage system.

When our body and our environment are clean,we can begin to increase in size and height . Increase in size and height is what is called physical development. If a child does not keep his or her body and environment clean, the child will not grow well even if he or she eats well. Such good will be used for fighting infections and diseases instead of using them for growth. This shows that the physical development of a child is dependent on the personal hygiene of that child.
