Behavioural Objectives :  At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to mention different types of constituted authorities or agencies that help to control traffic and enforce traffic rules and regulations in Lagos in general and in Nigeria as a whole country

 

 

 

Content :

These are the constituted authorities and agencies that help to enforce, maintain and control traffic rules and regulations in Lagos and Nigeria

  1. LASTMA : Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was established by Lagos state government to help in the management and control of traffic in Lagos state.  LASTMA was created about twenty years ago by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in July, 2000 to help maintain the level of sanity and safety on major roads in Lagos

The slogan LASTMA is moving Lagos traffic with pride

 

  1. The Vehicle Inspector Officers (VIO) :The Directorate of Roads Traffic Services (DRTS), is popularly referred to as Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Nigeria. This agency was established by Federal Government of Nigeria to help to educate its citizens on the need to maintain safety on the high  ways and the reasons to obey all traffic rules and regulations. They always advise drivers to desist from overloading or carrying more than the required numbers of passengers. They inspect the road worthiness of vehicles and that is how they get the name Vehicle Inspector Offices (VIO)

 

  1. Road Marshals : These are special Marshals that are trained by federal road safety corps to maintain orderliness, sanity and safety on our high ways. Click here to read more about Nigeria Road Special Marshals

  2. The Nigeria Police force has a traffic department that helps with the maintenance of rules and regulations on our roads. These department consists of traffic police officers and warders

  3. We also have mobile courts that try traffic offenders or law breakers
