Basic Movements In Gymnastic

  1. Walking – Walking is a basic movement that we all do every day. In gymnastics, walking is a movement that involves moving forward, backward or sideways while keeping both feet on the ground. For example, when you walk on a balance beam, you need to keep your feet straight and take small steps to maintain your balance.
  2. Running – Running is another basic movement in gymnastics. It involves moving forward quickly, taking steps that alternate between your left and right foot. For example, when you run towards a vault, you need to take a few quick steps before jumping onto the vault.
  3. Hopping – Hopping is a movement where you jump off one foot and land on the same foot. For example, when you hop on one foot, you need to balance on that foot and use your arms to help you stay balanced.
  4. Jumping – Jumping is a movement where you take off from two feet and land on two feet. For example, when you jump on a trampoline, you need to use your legs to propel yourself upwards and then use your arms to help you stay balanced as you land back on the trampoline.
  5. Twisting – Twisting is a movement where you turn your body around while in the air. For example, when you do a twist on the balance beam, you jump and turn your body 180 degrees before landing back on the beam.

GYMNASTICS APPARATUS ACTIVITIES

  1. Swinging – Swinging involves moving back and forth on a bar or a set of rings. For example, when you swing on the uneven bars, you need to use your arms to propel yourself back and forth between the two bars.
  2. Bars – Bars are a set of parallel bars that gymnasts use to perform various movements. For example, when you perform on the uneven bars, you need to swing, jump, and flip between the two bars.
  3. Floor and Box Activities – The floor is a large mat that gymnasts use to perform various movements like tumbling, rolling, and cartwheels. The box is a small platform that gymnasts use to perform movements like vaulting. For example, when you do a cartwheel on the floor, you need to use your arms and legs to flip your body over.
  4. Walking – Walking on a balance beam is a common activity in gymnastics. The balance beam is a narrow, raised platform that gymnasts use to perform various movements while maintaining their balance.
  5. Beam Balance – Beam balance involves performing various movements while maintaining balance on a beam. For example, when you walk on the balance beam, you need to keep your feet straight and take small steps to maintain your balance.
  6. Parallel Bar – Parallel bars are two bars that run parallel to each other. Gymnasts use parallel bars to perform various movements like swinging, jumping, and flipping.
  7. Pommel – Pommel horse is a padded piece of equipment that gymnasts use to perform various movements like hopping, swinging, and flipping. For example, when you perform on the pommel horse, you need to use your arms and legs to move your body around the horse.
