WEEK TOPIC

THEME: JESUS’ TEACHING ABOUT HIMSELF

  1. Jesus as the Lamb, the door and good shepherd:(a) The Lamb 1: 29-34 (b) The door(c.) The good Shepherd John 10:1-18.

  2. Jesus as the light of the world: Jesus as(a) The Light of the world Jn. 3: 19; 8: 12; 9: 4-5; (b) walking in the light Jn. 12: 35-36 (c) Consequences of walking in the darkness Jn. 12: 35-36; 1 Jn. 1: 5-7 (d) social vices as evidence of walking in darkness (e) Jesus as the vine.

  3. Jesus as the living Bread and Water:(a) Jesus as the living Bread Jn. 6: 25-40. (b) Jesus as the Living water Jn. 4: 7-15 (c) Values beside food and water that is necessary for growth and happiness.

THEME 2: LOVE

  1. God’s love for man:(a) Types of love (b) Demonstration of God’s love to human beings (Jn. 3: 16) (c) Need for human being to respond to God’s love

  2. Love for one Another:(a) To know God is to love one another. Jn. 4: 7-8, 2 (b) Qualities of love, 1 Cor. 13: 1-13 (c) Various ways to demonstrate love for one another. Jn. 3: 17-18 THEME 3: JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH

  3. Justification by faith: (1)Meaning and need for justification Rom. 3: 23; Gal. 3: 19-21, (a) Work and law do not justify Rom. 4: 1-5; Gal. 2: 16-21; (b) Faith in Jesus as condition for justification Rom. 1: 16-17; 4: 1-5 (C) The fruit of justification Gal. 2: 19-21; 5: 22

THEME 4: NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

  1. MID-TERM BREAK

  2. New Life in Christ:(a) Meaning of old life as living in sin (b) Characteristics of old life Gal. 5: 19-21, Col. 3: 5-7 (fornication, idolatry, anger, selfishness, strife, homosexuality, fraud, injustice, lesbianism, bribery, tax invasion

  3. New life in Christ cont.:(c) Need for change Rom. 6: 1- 4; 15: 18- 19 (d) Characteristics of the new life: love, humility, patience, tolerance, patriotism, respect for hard work) (e) Need to stick to the new life Rom. 6: 12- 19; Col. 3: 1-3. To live a Christ fulfilled life

THEME 5: SONSHIP

  1. Son ship: (a) Jesus Christ the Son of God Rom. 8: 3, 17, 32 (b) Christians are also children of God. Rom. 8: 1-39, 4: 6-7; 5: 3(c) Right and responsibilities as children of God (d) Right as citizens of Nigeria.
