LOVE 

Love is a deep and strong feeling of affection one has for another. it is natural and difficult to comprehend. It is caring, gentile, kind, enduring, patient, not jealous etc.

God has great love for man. This love which is so real, made God send his son to redeem man after the fall of man into sin. The bible says “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”(John 3:16)

TYPES OF LOVE

The types of love are as follows:

 

1.     Platonic love: affection between friends is known as platonic love. it does not involve any sexual relationship

2.     Philia love: The love between friends that share the same interest and opinion is called philia love.

3.     Storge love: this is the natural love among family members due to family ties.

4.     Erotic love: sexual love between people of opposite sex is called erotic love.

5.     Agape love: Agape love is an unconditional love without any attachment. It is also known as selfless love. This is the type of love God has for mankind.

DEMONSTRATION OF GOD’S LOVE TO MAN

God has demonstrated his love to man in various ways which include but not limited to the following:

 

1. Sending Jesus Christ: The greatest demonstration of God’s love is sending Jesus Christ to die for the sins of humanity. This is according to John 3:16 which says “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”.

2. Forgiveness of sins: Another demonstration of God’s love is forgiveness. When we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

3. Meeting our needs: Another way in which God demonstrates his love is by meeting our needs. He knows our needs even before we ask him (Matthew 6:8).

4. Protection: God also protects and delivers us from our enemies. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalms 46:1).

5. Goodness and mercy: Lastly, God shows his love to us by lavishing his goodness and mercy on us. His mercy endures forever (Psalm 136:1).

In light of all the demonstrations of love by God toward human beings, it is only fitting that we respond to his love. Below are ways through which we can respond to his love:

 

1. Love him with all our heart: We are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30).

2. Obey his commands: Another way to respond to God’s love is by obeying his commands. And this is not burdensome (1 John 5:3).

3. Spend time with him in prayer and study of his word: We are to commune with God regularly in prayer and study of his word. This is how we grow in our relationship with him (Proverbs 8:17).

4. Show love to others: We are also to show love to others as Christ has loved us (John 15:12).

5. Serve him: Lastly, we are to serve God with all our heart (Jeremiah 29:13).

There are many ways to respond to the love of God, but these are some of the most important ones. As we respond to his love, our relationship with him deepens and we experience true joy and fulfillment.

God is love. His love for us is demonstrated through the sending of his son into the world to die for the sins of mankind.

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him”. (John 3:16, 17)

In conclusion, we have seen that God is love and he has demonstrated his love to us in various ways. We are also to respond to his love by loving him and others, obeying his commands, spending time with him in prayer and studying his word, and serving him. As we do these things, our relationship with God deepens and we experience true joy and fulfillment.
