25 METRES RACES.

Rules of the Race.

1. The start shall be made in a line, such length as is decided by the referee, or senior official after consultation with all competitors before the race starts (the referee’s decision will be final).

2. In races over 25 metres there are two lanes; each competitor must take the lane which he or she is told to take by the referee.

3. The finish shall be a straight line, such length as is decided by the referee, or senior official after consultation with all competitors before the race starts (the referee’s decision will be final).

4. The start and finish lines along with the lanes will be clearly marked with paint or other material on the pool deck

5. The referee shall have full authority to decide all questions regarding the interpretation of these rules, and shall also judge any disputes that may arise during the race

6. Competitors must run in their correct lane at all times during the race. If any competitor crosses into another lane, the referee may order a re-start or declare the race void

7. A false start will result in disqualification for the entire field of competitors

8. Competitors must finish within their own lane, and must not interfere with other competitors during the race. If a competitor interferes with another competitor in a way that impedes their ability to finish the race, the referee may order a re-start or declare the race void

9. Any competitor who is seen to push or shove an opponent in an unsportsmanlike manner will be disqualified from the race

10. At the end of the race, the first two finishers will be declared the winners of their heat. The top four competitors from each heat will qualify for the next round of competition, and all other competitors will be eliminated from further competition

11. In addition to final times and placings for each heat, the referee may also provide additional feedback and insights on each competitor’s performance, such as their starting and finishing times, the distance they ran in each lane, any infractions that were committed during the race, etc
