Content :  What are Government Institutions in Nigeria  :

Government Institutions are special organizations with their various areas of specialty that have been created with the sole aims of assisting government in carrying out specific roles or duties towards effective and efficient managements of government policies and programmes . These government institutions are always established by the constitutions of the law subject to the approval of the House of Senate with the president appending his signature to such laws that bring into existence such government institutions . The roles and duties of these institutions are easily depicted by their names .

Examples of Government Institutions in Nigeria  

  1. National Agency for food, Drug, Administration and Control NAFDAC.
  2. Independent Corrupt Practice and other related Offences Commission (ICPC).
  3. Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
  4. Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON).
  5. National drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

NATIONAL AGENCY FOR FOOD, DRUG, ADMINISTRATION AND CONTROL (NAFDAC)

  • NAFDAC is a Nigeria government agency under the federal ministry of health. It was established in 1933 with the sole aim of  monitoring , controlling , inspecting, supervising and maintaining the sale, distribution, transportation, advertisement, exportation, importation, manufacture and use of packaged water, chemicals, medical devices, cosmetics, drugs, and food. It controls the manufacturing, importation, sale and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, packaged water, chemicals, and medical devices.

INDEPENDENT CORRUPT PRACTICE AND OTHER RELATED OFFENCES COMMISSION (ICPC)

ICPC was established on 29th of September, 2000. Its raises public awareness on the negative effects of corruption and to subdue bribery and corruption in public service. The commission also investigates corruption and other related offences . The commission also investigates cases of Advanced Fee Fraud  (419) and money laundering

ECONOMIC FINANCIAL CRIME COMMISSION (EFCC)

This agency was established in 2003. The roles of ICPC and EFCC are somehow related in one way or the other .It investigates crimes such as money laundering and advance fee fraud (419). It persecute financial criminals. EFCC also investigates cases of financial misappropriation that is brought up against any individual in the country , government officials , private institutions or government establishments

STANDARD ORGANIZATION OF NIGERIA (SON)

The agency was established in 1971 and was called the Nigerian standard organization (NSO), but became SON in 1984.Its headquarters is loacted at 1 4, Kitwit Street, Beside Water Board, Zone 4, Wuse, Abuja and its Lagos corporate office is at Victoria Arobieke street in Lagos state . SON  ensures that all goods that are produced or manufactured in Nigeria are of best quality or standard . They also see to standards that are related to measurements , materials and processes of products . They also carry out inspections of the quality of products and materials, and facilities used in production

NATIONAL DRUG LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY (NDLEA)

The agency was established by the decree number 48 of January 1990 with its corporate office at Plot 1, Industrial Estate, 22/132 Lagos- Oshodi Apapa Express Way, Isolo, Lagos  . The agency is charged with the eliminating the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting and trafficking hard drugs. They eliminate cannabis is by destroying cannabis plantations throughout the country .. They are found in airport, seaports and border crossing because they want to curb or reduce drug trafficking across the Nigerian boarders
