Planting of Crops Packaging and packaging conditions for farm produce
Packaging of farm produce are done in order to make them remain fresh and prevent them from getting spoilt easily
Farm produce are packed, wrapped or put inside materials that are made for packaging before they are displayed on shelves for sales. Packaging also involves the process of enclosing or covering Agricultural produce for distribution, storage and display for sales.

Conditions for packaging
The following conditions are put into conditions before packing any agricultural produce
Nature of the farm produce : The natural condition of the farm produce is put into consideration. Such conditions involve how perishable the farm produce is,
The form of the farm produce : This deals with the state of the farm produce which may be in liquid or solid state. Liquids are kept in tight fitted containers to prevent them from getting spoilt.
SIze of the farm products : Bigger farm products requires bigger package while smaller ones need smaller package. The packaging material must be suitable for the agricultural produce
Live, frozen or dry stock : Frozen foods are packed in such a way that is different from live farm produce.
Purpose: The material that is used for packaging must be able to serve the purpose that is meant for which are prevention from breakage, leakage and damage
Advantages of packaging
- It makes it easier for consumers to identify their favorite brands when shopping
- Packaging makes products to be closely packed together and this ease the burden of carrying them separately
- Packaging retains the quality and freshness of farm produce
- It prevent them from getting spoilt easily
Disadvantages of Packaging
- Some packaging materials are very expensive
- Packaging increases the overall cost of farm produces
- Goods and produce that are packed and sealed prevent buying from inspecting thoroughly before buying or paying for such goods
- Bad products may be packed as fresh ones by dubious farmers
- Environmental pollution and degradation as most refuse that are examples of land pollutants are wastes from packaging materials
