Simple Sums On Ratio And Proportion

Three men share some bags of cement in the ratio 3:4:5. If the smallest share was 36 bags, find the other shares

Solution

 

Ratio given : 3: 4: 5

Total ratio =(3+4+5) is 12

Fractional ratio = 3/12.  4/12….5/12

Smallest share = 12

Whole share = 36 is divided by 3/12

=144

 

 

Check your answer

Divide whole share by each fractional ratio

 

First share =3/12 times 14 4 equal to 36

 

Second share = 4/12 times 144 equal to 48

 

Third share = 5/12 times 144 equal to 60

 

First share is 36

 

The two other shares are 48 and 60
