This type of CPU is in a standing position
Horizontal CPU (Desktop Computer)
This type of CPU is usually in a lying down position. Usually placed on the table and the monitor placed on top
Main Units of the CPU (Central Processing Unit)
Control Unit: It controls other units within the CPU. It is the brain within the CPU.
Arithmetic Logic Unit: It is the part of the CPU that performs arithmetic (mathematical) and comparison operations.
Memory Unit: It is used to store data.
WEEK 2: INTRODUCING WORDPAD
INTRODUCING WORDPAD
WordPad is a basic word processor that is included with almost all versions of Microsoft Windows.
It is more advanced than Notepad but simpler than Microsoft Word.
To open WordPad,
Call up the charms bar, click on search, type WordPad then press enter.

WEEK 3: WORDPAD RIBBON ITEMS
The Home Tab has five groups: Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Insert and Editing.
Clipboard Group:
Three options are available: Cut, Copy, Paste.
Cut: Will remove highlighted text from a document and save on to Clipboard. (Other options are: CTRL + X or Right mouse click, Cut.
Copy: Will leave highlighted text where it is, but copy it so you can also place it elsewhere on your document.
Paste: allows you to paste both the highlighted cut or copied text wherever you choose.
CLASS ACTIVITY (HIGHLIGHTING, COPYING, CUTTING AND PASTING)
Type a composition about your class teacher.
Your composition must have a title “My Class Teacher”
CUTTING AND PASTING
Highlight the title of your composition by left clicking at the beginning of your title, then swiping across to the end, till it is covered in light blue. You should have this.
On your ribbon, click on cut. It has the picture of a scissors.
As soon as you click on cut, (note that your title is cut off and no longer there), waiting for you to paste elsewhere.
Go to the end of your composition and press enter key three times.
Click on paste on your ribbon Hurray! Your title is back.
COPYING AND PASTING
Just like before, highlight the title of your composition by left clicking at the beginning of your title, then swiping across to the end, till it is covered in light blue
On your ribbon, click on copy. (Note that your title still remains after copying)
Go to the end of your composition and press enter key three times.
Click on paste on your ribbon. Hurray! Your title is double!
Save your composition
Summary
Highlighting: The first thing you must do before copying or cutting.
Cut: Removes your text from its position and repositions wherever you paste it
Copy: Duplicates your text (makes it two).
WEEK 4: WORDPAD RIBBON ITEMS CONTINUED
Font Group:
Font style (Calibri is default setting). Click on down arrow for other font styles.
Font size (12 is default setting). Click on down arrow for other font sizes.
Capital A and Small A: The capital A will enlarge the highlighted text font size; the smaller A will reduce the highlighted text font size.
B will Bold text. (Another option is CTRL + B).
I will Italicize text. (Another option is CTRL + I).
U will underline text. (Another option is CTRL + U).
abc (strikethrough). Places lines through text to indicate it is to be deleted.
Pencil (text highlighter). Will highlight text as if you had used a highlighter. The down arrow will give you the choice of 12 different colours.
The A will change the colour of your words or letters. Select colours by clicking on the down
arrow.
Paragraph Group:
Four square boxes with lines: Lines show position of text on your page.
Box 1: Left justified – Text starts at left margin. (Another option is CTRL + L).
Box 2: Text is Centered. (Another option is CTRL + E).
Box 3: Text is right aligned (but not left aligned). (Another option is CTRL + R).
Box 4: Text is justified – both right and left aligned. (Another option is CTRL + J).
Class Activity
Type a composition of 10 lines about your best friend.
Your composition must have a title “My Best Friend”
Make your title bold and Underlined
Change the font type to Algerian
Change the font size to 35
Centralize you title
The font colour must be green
The body of your composition must be in italics.
Save your composition
WEEK 5: THE INSERT GROUP AND CLASS ACTIVITY
The Insert Group:
Picture: You can insert a picture. Click on down arrow to change or resize a picture.
Paint drawing: you can insert a paint drawing you did in Microsoft Paint. (Another option to insert a drawing from MS Paint is CTRL + D).
Date and Time: Click on icon for a small selection of date/time styles.
Insert object: You can insert a graph, text etc from other Microsoft packages.
Class Activity Inserting a Picture
Open WordPad and Type the title “My Class Teacher”
Centralize, make bold and underline your title
Click on picture on your ribbon. In the dialog box that appears, on the left hand side, click on libraries, then picture. click on the name and picture of your class teacher. Click on Open.
The picture of your class teacher appears below your title.
Inserting Date and Time
Press Enter twice after your picture.
On your ribbon, click on date and time. The dialog box below appears. Click on the specified format and click ok.
The Date chosen appears at the bottom of your page
Editing Group:
WEEK 7: EDITING GROUP AND CLASS ACTIVITY
Find: You can use this function to help you find text quickly in a document. (Another option is CTRL + F).
Replace: The replace option enables you to both find text in a document and replace it with
another word. (Another option is CTRL + H or the special function key F5).
Select All: This function selects all the text in the document. (Other options are CTRL + A, or click and drag the mouse over the text to be selected).
VIEW TAB:
Click on the View Tab to see three groups: Zoom, Show or Hide, and Settings:
Zoom: This allows you to zoom in (increase text size); size/zoom out (reduce text size); or set for 100%.
Show or Hide:
-tick to hide the ruler.
Tick to show the Status Bar (bar at the bottom of your document); Un-tick to hide the status bar. WordPad Page 3 of 6
Settings:
Word Wrap: Click on the down arrow to change the way your page looks. You can have three different views: no wrap, wrap to window, or wrap to ruler. Word Wrap will not affect the printing of your document.
Class Activity Find
Open WordPad and type a composition of 10 lines about your school
Click on Find
In the dialog box that appears, type school in the space provided and click on Find Next.
School will be highlighted in your composition.
Replace
Click on Replace. The dialog box below appears. Under find what, type school, then replace with Class. You Title My school will automatically be replaced by My Class. Try it!
WEEK 8: CLASS ACTIVITY ON WORDPAD
Class Activity
Instruction: Combine all we’ve learnt into the following composition
Write a composition of 10 lines about your Class
Your title must be bold, underlined and centralized. Font Colour: Red
Font type: Comic Sans
Font Size: 20
At the end of your composition, insert a group picture of your class.
Go back to the top of your composition, highlight and copy the title of your composition, go to the bottom of your picture.
Click on paste.
Insert date and time under your picture
Click on View menu, Click on Zoom In to enlarge your window or Zoom Out to make the page smaller
