1. Meaning of Service
- Service means providing something of value to meet the needs of others.
- It involves working for a person, country, or organization, sometimes for a reward (wages or salary).
- Service is important in the family, school, church, community, and nation.
Why is service important?
- It helps in building a better society.
- It allows people to help one another.
- It promotes love and unity.
- It brings rewards from God and people.
2. Examples of People Who Responded to God’s Call in the Bible
1. Abraham
- God called Abraham to leave his father’s house and go to an unknown land (Genesis 12:1-4).
- Abraham obeyed without questioning God.
2. Moses
- God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (Exodus 3:10).
- Though he doubted at first, he later accepted the call.
3. Joseph
- Joseph’s call came through hardship.
- He was sold into slavery by his brothers but later became a ruler in Egypt (Genesis 41:39-41).
4. Joshua
- Joshua was called to lead Israel after Moses’ death (Joshua 1:1-9).
- He obeyed and led the people into the Promised Land.
5. Isaiah
- Isaiah responded to God’s call by saying, “Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8).
- He became a great prophet.
6. Jeremiah
- God called Jeremiah as a prophet while he was still young (Jeremiah 1:4-10).
- He obeyed and served God faithfully.
3. Names of Some People Who Served Society Faithfully
Throughout history, some people have contributed to the growth and development of society.
Examples include:
- Dr. Mrs. Dora Akunyili – She served Nigeria by fighting against fake drugs as NAFDAC’s Director-General.
- Chief Obafemi Awolowo – He was a great leader and contributed to education in Nigeria.
