Content

Heroes in Lagos State

  1. Candido Da Rocha: He was a Nigerian businessman, landowner and creditor who owned Water House on Kakawa Street, Lagos IslandLagos, and was the proprietor of the now defunct Bonanza Hotel in Lagos. He held the chieftaincy title of the Lodifi of Ilesa.

  2. Ogunfunmnire: Ogunfunminire settled at and founded Iseri and made the place his base for further hunting expedition.The founder became the 1st Oba of Isheri bearing his Father’s name OLOFIN as his title (hence the Olofin of Isheri).
  3. Oshodi Tapa: He was a legendary warrior known for his strength and courage in battles. Landuji Oshodi, known as Oshodi Tapa, was a powerful chief and war minister of King Kosoko of Lagos.
  4. Oba Eshilokun: He was a great king who brought peace and prosperity to Lagos during his reign. Eshilokun was the Oba of Lagos from 1780 to 1819. Eshilokun became king following the expulsion of Oba Adele Ajosun, who was accused of negligence in the keeping of cultural sanctity. Like his Great Uncle’s, his reign was uneventful, and he also had to grapple with his brother, Adele who attempted to regain the seat of authority. Eshilokun’s two sons, Idewu Ojulari and Kosoko successively became kings after him.

Herbert Macaulay: He was a Nigerian nationalist and political leader who fought for independence and democracy.Olayinka Herbert Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay was a Nigerian nationalist, politician, surveyor, engineer, architect, journalist, and musician and is considered by many Nigerians as the founder of Nigerian nationalism. Though from a family of devout Anglicans, Macaulay embraced indigenous African religious traditions, was superstitious, and dabbled in the practice of magic.

Fela Kuti: He was a famous musician and activist who used his music to speak out against corruption and oppression.Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì, also famously known as Abàmì Ẹ̀dá, was a Nigerian musician, bandleader, composer, political activist, and Pan-Africanist. He is regarded as the King of Afrobeat, a Nigerian music genre that combines West African music with American funk and jazz
  7. Chief Gani Fawehinmi: He was a fearless human rights activist and lawyer who fought against injustice. He was a Nigerian author, publisher, philanthropist, social critic, human and civil rights lawyer, and politician. He held the chieftaincy title of the Lamofin of Ondo. He was already in referred to as the peoples lawyer
