WEEK 6
TOPIC: DRAWING AND SHADING (STILL LIFE AND NATURE DRAWING)
Natural objects: Plants, Animals, Fruits and vegetables
Shading Techniques: Hatching, Cross hatching, Blurring (rubbing), pointillism
NATURE DRAWING: Is the drawing of natural things such as animals, plants, insects, fruits, flowers, vegetables etc.
SHADING
Shading is the process of introducing light and shade to our drawing. Another names for shading are Chiaroscuro and Modeling.
Shading gives solidity effect to the objects and makes them look real and natural.
SHADING TECHNIQUES
The four major shading techniques are; Hatching, Cross hatching Blurring (rubbing) , pointillism and scribbling.
HATCHING METHOD: This is carried out by applying lines or strokes facing the same direction.
.
CROSS HATCHING METHOD: This are techniques where by strokes overlap one another.
BLURRING (RUBBING) METHOD: This is a shading method which involve rubbing to produce tonal effect in medium used in drawing
POITILLISM: This is a technique in which dots or points are painted together to give a blended effect.
SCRIBBLING METHOD: This is a shading method achieved by scribbling lines on the drawn object randomly.
The type of shading that is achieved by drawing multiple layers of lines in different directions is called hatching. This technique is often used to create shading effects in drawings.
Cross hatching is a shading technique that involves drawing multiple layers of lines in different directions. This technique is often used to create shading effects in drawings.
Smudging is a shading technique that involves drawing multiple layers of lines in different directions. This technique is often used to create shading effects in drawings.
Modeling is a shading technique that involves drawing multiple layers of lines in different directions. This technique is often used to create shading effects in drawings.
Presentation
The topic is presented step by step
Step 1:
The class teacher revises the previous topics
Step 2.
He introduces the new topic
Step 3:
The class teacher allows the pupils to give their own examples and he corrects them when the needs arise
EVALUATION
- Briefly explain the meaning of nature drawing.
- Mention four techniques of shading

When you are finished with your drawing, use a dark color to outline the fruits. You can also add other details like highlights or shadows. Use your imagination!

The class teacher also goes round to make sure that the notes are well copied or well written by the pupils.
He or she does the necessary corrections when and where the needs arise.
