  1. Jaja of Opobo: Jaja of Opobo, also known as Jubo Jubogha, was a prominent merchant and political leader in the late 19th century in what is now Nigeria. He was known for his efforts in promoting trade and economic development in the Opobo city-state, which was a major center of trade during the colonial era. 2. Nana of Itsekiri: Nana Olomu, also known as Nana of Itsekiri, was a prominent Niger Delta trader and politician in the late 19th century. He was known for his resistance against British colonial rule and his efforts to protect the economic interests of the Itsekiri people in the Niger Delta region. While his contributions were more focused on the political and economic aspects, his efforts to protect the economic interests of his people can also be seen as an early example of environmental activism in Nigeria.
  3. Herbert Macaulay: Herbert Macaulay was a Nigerian nationalist, politician, and social activist who played a significant role in Nigeria’s struggle for independence from British colonial rule. He was known for his efforts in advocating for the rights and welfare of the Nigerian people, including issues related to land rights, environmental conservation, and social justice. He was known for his efforts in advocating for social justice, human rights, and national unity. While his contributions were more focused on the political and social aspects, his efforts to promote social justice and human rights can also be seen as having an impact on Nigeria’s environmental history, as environmental issues are closely tied to social justice and human rights concerns.
  6. Ahmadu Bello: Ahmadu Bello was a Nigerian statesman, politician, and traditional ruler who played a prominent role in Nigeria’s pre-independence and post-independence eras. He was known for his efforts in advocating for regional development, education, and agriculture. His contributions to Nigeria’s agricultural and economic development can be seen as having an impact on the country’s environmental history, as agriculture is a significant aspect of Nigeria’s economy and environmental sustainability.
  7. Sam Okwaraji: Sam Okwaraji was a Nigerian football player and national team midfielder who represented Nigeria in international competitions. He was known for his exceptional talent as a football player and his dedication to the Nigerian national team. Although his contributions were more sports-focused, his patriotism and dedication to representing Nigeria at the international stage can be seen as a form of environmental heroism, as it promoted national pride and unity, which are important elements in fostering environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.
  1. Gani Fawehinmi: Gani Fawehinmi was a Nigerian lawyer, human rights activist, and pro-democracy campaigner who played a significant role in advocating for human rights, social justice, and the rule of law in Nigeria.
