Content

Zero is the first number. It is the number that comes before one. Look at it. Before I had no car, which means I have zero car but now I have just bought a new car 🚙., so I have one car.

Later I may decide to buy one more car and now I will have two cars.

0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…….

If I have three doughnuts 🍩 🍩 🍩 and I eat two doughnuts, how many doughnuts are left?

Answer = 2 doughnuts 🍩 🍩

If I have 2 doughnuts 🍩 🍩 and I eat 1 doughnut 🍩, how many doughnuts are left?

Answer = 1 doughnut 🍩

If I have one doughnut 🍩 and I eat one doughnut, how many doughnut are left

Answer = zero doughnut or nothing doughnut or nothing

Introducing zero (0) as a number

Zero is the middle integer. It is not in positive and it is not negative. The concept of zero is usually harder than counting and other early number concepts. We cannot represent zero with objects or items. Zero cars mean no cars. Zero children means no children. Thus, we usually introduce it only after a child has understood the value of numbers to some extent maybe from figure 1 to figure 5. The difference between 0 and other numbers is that all of the other numbers have a tangible visual form, whereas 0 does not

Count the following objects

1 🍃

2 🧒 🧒

3 🦒 🦒 🦒

4 📱 📱 📱 📱

5 💍 💍 💍 💍 💍

Count the following objects

🥤 🥤 🥤 = ___

🐠 🐠 🐠 🐠 = _____

☀ = ___

🗺 🗺 🗺 🗺 = ___

🦁 🦁 🦁 = ____

🗃 🗃 = ___

🚙 🚙 = ___

If you want to start writing zero, you will need to draw up a curve facing forward then a curve facing backwards until the two curves meet to form a shape that like zero. This is zero that you have drawn.

Presentation :

The topic is presented step by step

Step 1 :The class revises the previous topic

Step 2 : The class teacher introduces the new topic which is counting, reading and identification of Numbers from one to five

Step 3 : Allow learners to give their own ideas and suggestions and corrects them when the needs arise

Evaluation

Call the pupils out one by one and tell them to touch any of the following figures that you must have written on the board

Arrange these figures from the smallest to the biggest
