COMPREHENSION PASSAGE

THE BEAR AND THE TRAVELLERS

Two men were going on a journey together when a bear suddenly met

them on their path.

One of them climbed up quickly into a tree, and hid himself in the branches. The other seeing that he might be attacked, fell flat on the ground and when the bear came up and felt him with his nose and smelt him all over, he held his breath and pretended to have died as much as he could. The bear soon left him, for he was told not to touch a dead body.

When he was quite gone, the other traveler came down from the tree and jokingly asked his friend what it was the bear told him. His partner answered him. “He gave me this advice, never travel with a friend who leaves you in time of danger”.
