All the Learning activities engaged on during this term will be revisited.

Meaning of heroes and heroines

A hero is a man who we admire for doing a brave and great thing

A heroine is a woman who we admire for doing a brave and great thing

PA TAIWO AKINKUNMI

He was born in Ibadan. He studied electrical engineering at Norwood Technical College in London where he designed the Nigerian flag in its colour-green and white. He was so proud of the colours of the Nigerian flag that he wore it always as part of his attire and as the colour of his house.

He is fondly remembered for designing the Nigerian flag.

 

CHIEF GANI FAWEHINMI

He was an author, human and civil rights lawyer, politician, author and a publisher. He was known for his constant fight for human right. He was beaten, and imprisoned severally from various parts of the country for fighting for human and civil rights of Nigerians.

In 2008 he rejected the honour of the Order of the Federal Republic(OFR) from the federal government in protest of the many years of misrule of Nigeria since its independence.

He died on 5th September 2009 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

 

ALHAJI ABDUSALAMI ABUBAKAR

He is a retired military head of state of Nigeria who ruled from 9th of June, 1998 to 29th of May 1999. He was the successor of General Sani Abacha.

It was during his rule, Nigeria adopted its 1999 constitution. A few days after his assumption of office, he promised to hold elections and transfer power to the elected president which saw the emergence of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as the President. In order to achieve this, he established the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

He is fondly remembered for transitioning Nigeria from the years of military dictatorship to Civilian governance

 

Other Nigeria Heroes are

  1. Nnamdi Azikiwe: He was a political leader and the first president of Nigeria. He worked hard to make sure Nigeria became an independent country and helped build the country’s economy and education system.
  2. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti: She was a women’s rights activist who fought for the rights of women and children in Nigeria. She helped women get involved in politics and stood up for their rights.
  3. Wole Soyinka: He is a famous writer and playwright who used his writing to speak out about important issues in Nigeria, like corruption and injustice. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986.
  4. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: She is a writer and a storyteller. Her books, like “Americanah” and “Half of a Yellow Sun,” help people understand important parts of Nigerian history and culture.
  5. Stephen Keshi: He was a soccer player and coach who led the Nigerian soccer team to win the African Cup of Nations. He inspired many young people to play soccer and showed them that they could achieve great things if they worked hard and believed in themselves.
