CONTENT:
There are many agencies whose duties are to enforce the laws on the production and use of drugs. These are:
- National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
- National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
- Welfare Homes.
- The Family.
- The School.
- National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC): This is a government agency that ensures the following among others:
(a) They regulate and control importation, exportation, manufacture, advertisement, distribution, sale and use of drugs.
(b) They conduct tests and make sure that drugs are produced according to the set standards.
(c) They investigate to find out the kind of materials that drugs are made up of.
(d) They register drugs that are suitable for our health.
(e) They give permission for the importation and exportation of drugs.
(f) They inspect any drugs that is brought into the country.
(g) They build and maintain laboratories so that they can carry out tests on drugs.
(h) They make sure that drugs are only used by those authorised to do so.
(i) They work hand-in-hand with organisations which deal with drugs to make sure that drugs are not misused.
(j) They collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to stop drug abuse in Nigeria.
- National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA): This is another government agency that was set up to stop illegal drugs and their use in the Nigeria society. Their roles include the following:
(a) They use different ways to identify, trace, freeze and seize money or any other possessions gained through drug offences.
(b) They use different methods to stop illegal planting of dangerous drugs.
(c) They try to stop the demand for dangerous drugs in order to reduce those who suffer from the use of hard drugs.
(d) They check transport systems and cooperate with transporters to prevent the movement of illegal drugs.
(e) They take people who are guilty of selling dangerous drugs to court and make sure that they are punished.
(f) They cooperate with other countries to reduce the activities of illegal drug trade.
(g) They cooperate with government and non-governmental organisations to fight illegal drug trafficking.
