STEPS INVOLVED IN RAISING LIVESTOCK LIKE POULTRY
Poultry is used to refer to the branch of agriculture that deals with the production of meat and eggs for sales and for consumption
Examples of poultry birds that are raised by farmers are chicken, turkey, or guinea fowls.
STEPS INVOLVED IN RAISING LIVESTOCK LIKE POULTRY
- Housing : Provision of houses or shelter for the fowls to prevent them from predators, infection or harsh weather conditions. There are two types of housing for chicken which are deep litter system and cage system
- Specie of birds : Taking care and nurturing the young chicks to maturity. The young chicks must be well fed and nurture to maturity based on their breed be it layers, or broilers. Layers are raised to lay eggs while broilers are reared for meat production
- Fedding : Poultry birds must be given sufficient food and water.. This is necessary to increase their growth into maturity. Different types of chicken are given different types of feeds based on the porpoise they are being raised. Layers are fed with portion that is different from the ones given to the broilers. Feeding trough is used today to introduce food to the chicken after they have been taken away from the hatchery.
Other means of taking care of poultry birds are
- Frequent visits by the vet doctor
- Occasional medication
- Removal of sick or dead animals from the healthy ones (culling)
- Sales of mature chicken
- Killing of fully grown chicken on special request for sales or consumption
