Content
Insects are the most populous creatures on earth. They are found almost everywhere. Insects have three body segments which are the head, the thorax and the abdomen. Most insects have six legs
Harmful Insects are Insects that are known to be destroying crop plant by reducing the vegetative part such as the leaves. When harmful Insects reduce the leaf area of plant, the food production is reduced.
Harmful Insects reduce the level of income to the farmer by
reducing the quality of the crop. Examples of harmful Insects are: Tsetsefly, Mosquito, Grasshopper, Caterpillar, Termite, Weevil, Housefly.
Harmful Insects are not good to be allowed on the farm as they cause a lot of damages to plant and has effects on both farmer and crop.
The damages harmful Insects caused to both farmers and crops are :
a. They transmit diseases to the farmers, e.g. malaria.
b,. They destroy plant root thereby killing the plant.
c. They eat plant leaves thereby reducing the crop’s ability to produce food.
d. They transmit diseases to animals.
e . They destroy crops, e.g, grains being destroyed by grains Weevil.
