Content
First aid is the immediate medical help given to a person or victim of an accident before such a person is taken to the hospital for proper treatment.
Reasons for giving first aid
We give first aid for the following reasons:
1 To save life.
2 To prevent further injury.
3 To speed up recovery.
4 To help injured person to get a doctor.
5 To relieve the victim of pain.
What are the Items that can be found in a first aid box
To be able to give help as soon as an accident or sudden illness occurs, a first aid box must be available. First aid box must be kept in every home, school, work place and even in vehicles.
First aid box is a box that contains all the necessary materials for first aid.
How first aid can be applied to an injured person
1 Wear your gloves.
2 Clean the wound with antiseptic and cotton wool.
3 Cover the wound with plaster or bandage.
4 Give the victim pain reliever like paracetamol.
5 Allow the person to rest for a few minutes.
6 Take the person to the nearest health centre or hospital.
People who can apply first aid
There are people in the society that can apply first aid. They include the following:
1 Our parents at home.
2 Our teachers in the school.
3 Adults around the accident scene.
4 Members of the Red Cross Society. Red Cross Society is a voluntary organization that was founded to protect human lives and health
in case of any emergency. The members are trained to give first aid. Jean Henri Dunant, a Swiss, was the founder of the Red Cross Movement.
5 Members of Federal Road Safety Corps. This is also an agency in charge of maintaining safety of lives on the road. They are also trained to give first aid.
6 Health workers in sports.
