DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENT
The environment is all around us. It includes everything in our surroundings, like the air we breathe, the water we drink, the plants and animals we see, and the people we interact with.
Let’s talk about two different environments you are familiar with: your school and your home.
Your school environment includes things like:
- Classrooms and other rooms in the school
- School supplies, like desks, chairs, and pencils
- Teachers and classmates
- Playground and sports fields
- Trees and flowers on school grounds
Your home environment includes things like:
- Your house or apartment and the rooms inside
- Furniture, like sofas, beds, and tables
- Appliances, like refrigerators, stoves, and televisions
- Your family and pets
- Trees, flowers, or plants outside your home
You spend a lot of time in them and they can have an impact on how you feel and how you learn. It’s important to take care of these environments and keep them clean and healthy so that you can be happy and successful.

CARE OF ENVIRONMENT
Taking care of the environment means doing things to help keep it clean, healthy, and safe for ourselves and for other living things. Here are some examples of things you can do to care for the environment:
- Reduce, reuse, and recycle: You can reduce the amount of waste you produce by using things like reusable water bottles instead of disposable plastic bottles. You can also reuse things like plastic bags or donate clothes and toys instead of throwing them away. And finally, you can recycle things like paper, plastic, and metal to reduce the amount of waste in the environment.
- Save energy: You can help the environment by saving energy. This means turning off lights when you leave a room, unplugging electronics when you’re not using them, and using energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances.
- Plant trees and plants: Planting trees and plants helps the environment by providing oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide, and providing habitats for animals. You can plant trees and plants in your yard, in a community garden, or in a local park.
- Pick up litter: When you see litter on the ground, you can pick it up and throw it away in a garbage can. This helps keep the environment clean and safe for people and animals.
- Conserve water: You can help conserve water by turning off the faucet when you’re brushing your teeth or taking shorter showers. You can also use a bucket to collect water while waiting for it to warm up and then use that water to water plants or flush the toilet.
Objects that can be found in the environment:
- Trees – Trees are important components of the environment. They provide oxygen, shade, and homes for animals.
- Rocks – Rocks are a common feature in the environment. They can be found in mountains, streams, and even in the soil.
- Water – Water is an essential part of the environment. It can be found in rivers, lakes, oceans, and even in the air as moisture.
- Plants – Plants are vital to the environment. They provide food, oxygen, and shelter for animals.
- Animals – Animals are an important part of the environment. They help to pollinate plants, control pests, and are a source of food for many people.
- Soil – Soil is the foundation of the environment. It provides a home for plants and animals, and helps to filter and store water.
- Trash cans – Trash cans are important for keeping the environment clean. They are used to collect and dispose of waste in a responsible way.
- Shovels – Shovels are used for digging and moving soil, rocks, and other materials in the environment. They are an important tool for gardening and construction.
- Brooms – Brooms are used for cleaning up litter and debris in the environment. They are an important tool for maintaining clean and safe public spaces.
- Buildings – Buildings are a human-made feature of the environment. They provide shelter, workspaces, and homes for people, and can also have an impact on the natural environment around them
