Avoid tardiness: arrive early to work and all meetings.
Manage your time before, during & after lessons effectively.
Use visual aids and hands-on learning effectively; don’t forget that nature offers quite a number of examples for practical teaching; regularly leave your classrooms for mini ‘excursions’ within or around the school compound.
Know your content, prepare adequately to deliver life changing lessons. Stop limiting yourself to the pupils textbook. Use your Android phones and laptops for research.
Practise Empathy, Equality, Fairness & show Compassion. You’re like a surrogate parent in your classroom.
Listen: Really listen to your pupils and students needs, worries, challenges & thoughts (don’t be quick to judge or assume).
Connect with your pupils, parents & school management. Show yourself friendly. Be nice to people. Add value to them.
Become Computer literate & internet savvy; run daily researches with your Android phones; use various Apps & online resources in your classrooms daily.
Use a variety of teaching methods that will capture the interest of all learners whether they are Audio, Visual or Kinesthetics learners.
Ensure that every child participates in class during lessons. Get your pupils to be active during lessons. Use formative assessments, discussions, group work, hands-on practical activities and flipped classroom. Get students engaged from the beginning of the lesson till the end.
Effective communication is a key skill. Master it. Understand the key words in teaching and learning. Show the right body language. Speak with a level of language that your learner’s can understand.
Notice everything that happens in your classroom; keep anecdotal records and maintain students portfolios. Notice new habits, withdrawals, onset of sickness and other challenges of your students. Celebrate milestones achieved.
Meet all deadlines; Stop habitual procrastination; when you are at work, really focus on work. Set daily goals for yourself.
Keep all documented & personal information of pupils & school private. Never leak school information even to prospective employers!
Avoid office gossips; be different. Stop complaining. Take your needs to the management. If it is not met and you can improvise, kindly do so.
Mind your health with the right food, rest and exercise. Keep good friends – “Iron sharpens iron.”
Collaborate with other professionals in the field. Be quick to learn and teach. Share ideas. Start up innovative groups or foundations.
Groom & mentor other teachers. Grow into a Teacher leader. Be an exemplary Leader.

Become professionally certified as a teacher by studying any course in education. Get your TRCN Certificate too(for Nigerians only).
