Part B
- Trace the history of Paul the apostle briefly: Paul, also known as Saul, was a devout Jew who initially persecuted Christians. He was born in Tarsus, in Cilicia, and brought up in Jerusalem. He was a Roman citizen by birth and citizenship. Before his conversion, he was known as Saul and supported the killing of Stephen and the persecution of early Christians. After a transformative encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, he became a passionate Christian and dedicated his life to spreading the gospel.
- Explain the importance of Paul’s conversion briefly: Paul’s conversion was of great importance because it led to the spread of Christianity to the Gentiles. Before his conversion, Christianity was primarily a Jewish movement, but Paul’s mission to the Gentiles played a crucial role in the growth of the early Christian church. His conversion expanded the reach of the gospel and helped establish Christian communities beyond the Jewish world.
- Paul was stoned at Lystra “Why”: Paul was stoned at Lystra because the people mistook him and Barnabas for gods after Paul healed a lame man. The local priest of Zeus brought oxen and garlands to offer sacrifices to them. When Paul and Barnabas tried to stop the people from worshiping them, they turned against them, and Paul was stoned and dragged out of the city.
