Hard Work Pays?
Al-Hassan is a farmer. He practices mixed cropping. He plants different crops on the same land. He plants Maize, Okro, Cassava, Tomato and Yam. He also keep Goats. His wife and children help him in the sowing, weeding and harvesting of these crops. When the children return from school they help him look after the Goats. The pre-planting operation like cutting and burning of the bush are done by the labourers he hires. The labourers also make the ridges and heaps for him to plant seeds.
The few seeds of maize, the stems of Cassava, the few Tomato seeds and few cuttings of Yam he plants always multiply into hundreds cobs of Maize, Cassava a tubers, baskets of Tomatoes and tubers of Yam respectively.
