I. Meaning of Adverbials:

An adverbial is a word or a group of words that functions like an adverb, modifying a verb, an adjective, or even a whole sentence. It gives more information about how, when, where, or why something happens.

II. Features of Adverbials:

  • They provide more details about the action or state in the sentence.
  • They can describe time, place, manner, reason, or condition.
  • They can appear at the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence.

III. Functions of Adverbials:

Adverbials tell us:

  1. When something happens (time).
  2. Where something happens (place).
  3. How something happens (manner).
  4. Why something happens (reason).

IV. Types of Adverbials:

  1. Adverbials of Time: They tell us when something happens.
    Examples: yesterday, soon, last week
