The way leaders are chosen in the locality
In Yoruba land , a king does not die but ascend into the ceilings ( Oba waja ) to meet his great predecessors . Once that it is noticed that the king is no longer alive , the king makers are always sent for so that the preparations for selecting or choosing another king can commence .
What are the ways by which new kings are chosen ?
- The king makers are sent for so that the demise of the old king can be announced officially .
- Members of royal ruling families are sent for by the king makers so that each royal family can present someone that they think should be the next king
- Necessary consultations are made to make the final selections .
- Oracles or the ancestral powers are consulted before the final selections are made
Ways by which leaders emerge
- By birth if someone is born into a royal family
- By election , most especially during election periods when political leaders are voted into offices
- By appointments when president or governor appoint those people that will work with him when he or she has been voted into office.
