Definition of democracy

What is Democracy?

Democracy is defined as the government of the people, for the people and by the people.

It is a form of government that is based on the choice of the majority through periodic elections.

In democracy supreme power is vested in the people and exercise directed by them or their elected agents who may be the elected Governors, president and Local Government, council councillors, Chairman under free and fair election.

 

Some Political Parties in Nigeria:

 

APC – All Progressive Congress

PDP – People Democratic Party

APGA – All Progressive Grand Alliance

NPC – Nigerian People’s Congress

NUP – National Unity Party

LP – Labor Party

ACPN – Allied Congress Party of Nigeria

ID – Independent Democrat

PPP – People’s Progressive Party

PPN – People Party of Nigeria

 

What are the legitimate Duties or Roles of Political Parties in Nigeria 

 

  1. Recruiting and training candidates for public office.
  2. Channeling public opinions from citizens to government.
  3. Mobilizing citizens to participate in political decisions.
  4. Socializing and educating voters and citizens on electoral system and general political values.
  5. Monitoring opposing party in power.
  6. Monitor election processes when election is going on
  7. Educate the citizens on the needs to exercise their universal adult suffrage when the time comes .
  8. Conduct party primaries before the main general elections

Conclusion

The class teacher wraps up or conclude the lesson by giving out short note to summarize the topic that he or she has just taught.

The class teacher also goes round to make sure that the notes are well copied or well written by the pupils.

He or she does the necessary corrections when and where  the needs arise.
