Behavioural Objectives :  By the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to

  • explain the meaning of the armed forces
  • say the roles of members of the armed forces in preventing and curbing crimes in our society

 

Content :

ROLES OF ARMED FORCES IN PREVENTING CRIMES

The Nigerian Armed Forces is made up of the

Army : The army works on the land territory of the country . They protect our land boards from attacks from other countries . At times they can also work under the president command to check civil unrest in the country

Navy : The naval force protects the territorial waters of the country . There are seas that serve as links between our country and other countries . These seas are needed to be protected so that we are not attack through our waterways .

Air force : The Air force consists of able bodied men and women that work diligently day and night to protect our country airspace against attacks from the enemies

 

The protect the country from internal and external aggression , attack or crimes

According to section in 217 of the 1999 constitution, functions of the military in National security are;

defending Nigeria from external aggression;

The Nigerian armed forces are expected to ward off any attempt by any nation to fight Nigeria either through land ,air or sea,

Maintaining Nigeria territorial and securing its borders

Suppressing insurrection and act in  aid of the government of the day to restore authority and order .

Whenever there is a serious breakdown of law and order,uncontrollable violence or chaos,the military could be called upon by the president to intervene

The military are used by the power in authority to checkmate violent protesters that try to destroy or vandalize public property .

The class teacher wraps up or conclude the lesson by giving out short note to summarize the topic that he or she has just taught.

The class teacher also goes round to make sure that the notes are well copied or well written by the pupils.

He or she does the necessary corrections when and where  the needs arise.
