WHAT IS THE MEANING OF DRUG TRAFFICKING 

Drug trafficking refers to the illegal act of carrying or transporting hard drugs like cocaine,heroin,Indian hemp and many others within or outside a country,

Drug trafficking is the process of illegally transporting drugs for the purpose of selling them. Drugs that are commonly trafficked include cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana. Drug trafficking is a global problem that affects both developed and developing countries. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, drug trafficking is the world’s most profitable form of organized crime, generating an estimated $321.6 billion annually.

Those who engage in this illegal business are called drug traffickers or drug barons

Drug trafficking is a serious offence which attracts death sentence in some countries like INDONESIA,SAUDI ARABIS,MALAYSIA,ETC;

Drug traffickers are treats to the security of the nation,

WHY PEOPLE ENGAGE IN DRUG TRAFFICKING

1. Economic Reasons

One of the primary reasons that people get involved in drug trafficking is for economic reasons. Drug trafficking can be a very profitable business, and it often requires little initial investment. Additionally, drug traffickers may be able to avoid taxes and other costs associated with legal businesses. This can make drug trafficking an attractive option for people who are looking to make a lot of money quickly.

 

2. Political Reasons

Another reason that people may get involved in drug trafficking is for political reasons. In some cases, drug traffickers may be able to gain political power or influence by controlling the drug trade in a particular area. Additionally, drug trafficking can provide financial support for terrorist organizations or other groups that engage in political violence.

 

3. Personal Reasons

Some people may also get involved in drug trafficking for personal reasons, such as to finance a addiction or to pay off debts. Poverty and unemployment are the other reasons that people give for Trafficking drugs. Additionally, some people may become involved in drug trafficking because they have been coerced or threatened by others, peers or cult members.

The effects of drug trafficking include the following;

PREVENTION OF DRUG TRAFFICKING:

1. Education: children in primary and secondary schools should be exposed to the basic facts about drugs trafficking

2. Provision of more Jobs

3. Poverty Alleviation programs

4. Support for law enforcement agents

4. International cooperation

PUNISHMENT FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING;

1. Imprisonment

2. Death

3. Assets may be forfeited 

4. Payment of fines
