What is Democracy ?

Democracy is the system of government that is based on the majority rule .

It is a system whereby the people go to poll at regular intervals to choose their representatives through a manner that is suitable for them which is usually through election .

It is once said that democracy is the government of the people , by the people and for the people .

 

What are the features of Democracy ?

For any country to be totally democratic , the following features or characteristics must be presence .

  1. Free and fair periodic election
  2. The freedom of the press must be guaranteed
  3. The fundamental human rights of every citizen must be well established , pronounced and protected
  4. The existence of a rivalry political party that will serve as a watchdog to the party in power .

 

What are the democratic process ?

These are procedures or steps that are taken by members of a community or country in order to attain true democratic status .

The democratic procedures are highlighted below

  1. Active and effective political participation in issues that shape our political coexistence .
  2. Education and enlightenment of citizens on the need to invoke into live their universal adult suffrage
  3. Petitioning and protesting when the need arise most especially when government policies become inhumane
  4. Campaigning before elections in accordance with the provisions of the electoral body of the land
  5. Need to register as a voter in order to exercise voting rights

 

 

What importance are the democratic process 

  1. It creates awareness of the electoral process to the people
  2. People have rights to decide in matters that affect them most through elections
  3. Fundamental human rights are protected
  4. Citizen are free to air their opinion .

The class teacher allows the pupils to give their own examples and he corrects them when the needs arise

 

 

Conclusion

The class teacher wraps up or conclude the lesson by giving out short note to summarize the topic that he or she has just taught.

The class teacher also goes round to make sure that the notes are well copied or well written by the pupils.

He or she does the necessary corrections when and where  the needs arise.
