The Game of handball was introduced to Nigeria in the year 1972 by the National Sports Commission.

 

The modern game of handball was first played towards the end of the 19th century in Scandinavia and Germany. Field handball was first recognised at the turn of the century and G. Wallström introduced the sport of “handball” to Sweden in 1910.

 

What is the diameter of a handball?
7/8 inch
The standard ball is 1 7/8 inch (4.7 cm) in diameter and weighs 1 1/2–1 3/4 ounce (43–50 g). Rules have changed little since the 1880s, when the first Irish championships were played.

 

The Nigeria national handball team is the national team of Nigeria. It takes part in international handball competitions.

The team participated at the 1999 World Men’s Handball Championship, where they placed 23rd.

Basic Skills In Handball

  • The match lasts a total of 60 minutes with 30 minutes for each half
  • There are total of 14 players on the field with 7 players in each team.
  • A player can dribble or take three steps for up to three steps
