Parenting Tips in 8 L’s.
Here are the 8 “L’s” of Parenting to help you raise happy and successful children:
- LOVE: Show your child that they are valued and loved through gentle touches, smiles, hugs, and undivided attention.
- LOOK: Acknowledge your child’s strengths and positive behaviors by making specific comments on what they do well. Believing in your child’s worth can help build their self-confidence and motivation.
- LISTEN: Listen to your child without judgment when they express their thoughts and feelings. By doing so, you can prevent them from seeking attention through negative behaviors.
- LAUGH: Laugh and play with your child to cope with life’s difficulties. Avoid laughing at them and instead, demonstrate a sense of humor together.
- LABOUR: Diligently work hard with pride to encourage your child to work hard, persevere, and do their best.
- LEARN: Learn new things with your child and instill a love of learning. It’s okay to say “I don’t know” but follow it up with finding out together. On car trips, play word games, read, or listen to books on tape.
- LEAVE: Limit exposure to media that can desensitize your child towards violence and aggression, such as television and video games. Place computers in central locations to monitor internet use.
- LIVE: Take pleasure in the little things like an ice cream cone, a beautiful day, or your child’s enthusiasm. Read, pretend, dance, sing, take walks, play games, have pleasant meals, look at photos, share dreams, and enjoy each other’s company.
Remember, your child will most likely adopt the attitudes and habits you demonstrate daily, so be a positive role model.
