Comprehension Passage: The Dog
The dog is a domestic animal whose usefulness is rarely appreciated by man. It is not an ordinary animal. The dog is very loyal to man, no matter the situation. The dog remains faithful to man. The popular saying in a marriage ceremony, “for better, for worse,” is more applicable to the relationship between the dog and man. The dog is ever ready to stand by man in all circumstances. This makes the dog different from man, who may desert his friend when the situation becomes unfavorable.
The dog is also used by men to hunt other animals. Hunters usually rely on the dog’s ability to track down animals. The dog does not consider the fact that it belongs to the same category as other animals. It provides the meat that men eat with relish.
In addition to this, the dog is used to fight against criminals. The police train dogs to become detectives. With this training, they are able to sniff out where robbers are hiding. The robbers are then arrested by the police.
