What is SQ3R Reading Technique

SQ3R is a reading comprehension technique that stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. It is a systematic approach to reading that helps you to better understand and remember the material you are reading. Here’s an overview of the five steps of the SQ3R technique:

  1. Survey: Before you start reading, quickly scan the material to get an idea of what it is about. Look at the headings, subheadings, and any illustrations or charts.
  2. Question: Turn the headings and subheadings into questions and try to answer them based on what you already know about the topic. This helps to activate your prior knowledge and make connections to the new material.
  3. Read: Read the material carefully, paying attention to the answers to the questions you formulated in step 2. Take notes as you go along to help you retain the information.
  4. Recite: After you have finished reading a section, try to recite the information to yourself or to someone else. This can be in the form of a summary or by answering the questions you formulated in step 2.
  5. Review: After you have finished reading the entire material, review your notes and try to synthesize the information into a coherent whole. Quiz yourself or have someone quiz you to test your understanding.

Using the SQ3R technique can help you to better understand and remember the material you are reading, and it can also make reading more active and engaging.
