Definition and Explanation of Cosmetics and Deodorants

  1. Cosmetics

    • These are substances applied to the body, especially the face, to improve appearance.
    • They include body creams, powders, lipstick, and eye makeup.
  2. Deodorants

    • These are substances applied to control body odour caused by sweating.
    • They come in different forms such as roll-on, spray, and stick deodorants.

Importance of Cosmetics and Deodorants

  1. Improve natural appearance.
  2. Hide blemishes or skin imperfections.
  3. Help treat skin problems like pimples.
  4. Make people look more attractive.
  5. Some cosmetics protect the skin from harsh weather.

Types of Cosmetics

  1. Body Creams – Moisturizes the skin.
  2. Nail Polish – Enhances the beauty of fingernails.
  3. Perfumes and Deodorants – Keep the body fresh.

Recipe for Making Pomade

  • 2 cups of petroleum jelly
  • ¾ cup of mineral oil
  • 1 mineral wax (for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon of lanoline
  • Colour and perfume (as desired)

Procedure

  1. Heat the petroleum jelly and mineral wax in a saucepan until melted.
  2. Add mineral oil and stir thoroughly.
  3. Mix in lanoline and stir well.
  4. Add perfume and colour as desired.
  5. Pour into containers and allow to cool.
