Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants. Bees are known for their role in pollination and as the best known insect that produces honey and wax.

Bees feed on nectar (a part of plant rich in sugar) and on pollen. One of the major roles of bees, honey making, has led man to domesticate bees.

Bee farming or domestication of bees is the process of collecting or gathering bees from their natural environment and deliberately keeping them in wooden boxes or hives for different purposes.

Another name for bee farming is apiculture. A bee keeper is called an apiarist. An apiarist keeps bees in order to collect their honey and other products that the hive produces. The location where bees are kept is called an apiary or bee yard.
