Definition of a Keyboard

A keyboard is an input device used to enter text, numbers, and commands into a computer. It contains multiple keys arranged in different sections, each with a specific function.


Types of Keyboards

There are different types of computer keyboards based on their structure and functions. The two main types are:

1. Standard Keyboard

  • A basic keyboard with 101 or fewer keys.
  • It includes alphanumeric keys, function keys, and a number pad.
  • Does not have multimedia or special shortcut keys.

Example:

  • The IBM Model M keyboard is a common example of a standard keyboard.

2. Enhanced Keyboard

  • An improved version of the standard keyboard.
  • Has 104 or more keys, including additional function keys, multimedia keys, and shortcuts.
  • Commonly used on modern desktop and laptop computers.

Sections of a Keyboard
