How To Format Saved Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation

  1. Open the saved Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. If you have not saved the presentation, click “Save” or “Save As” to save it to your computer.
  2. Click on the “Design” tab located in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  3. Choose a new design for your presentation from the options shown. Each design will have its own color scheme, fonts, and styles.
  4. Click on the “Background Styles” option to change the background of your presentation. Choose a solid color, gradient, or picture to use as the background.
  5. To add a new slide to your presentation, click on the “New Slide” button located in the “Home” tab.
  6. To change the layout of a slide, click on the slide you want to change and then click on the “Layout” button in the “Home” tab. Choose a layout from the options shown.
  7. To add images or videos to your presentation, click on the “Insert” tab and then choose “Pictures” or “Video”. Select the image or video you want to add and then click “Insert”.
  8. To add text to a slide, click on the “Insert” tab and then choose “Text Box”. Click and drag to create a text box on the slide, and then type in your text.
  9. To change the font or color of your text, highlight the text you want to change and then click on the “Font” or “Color” options located in the “Home” tab.
  10. To save your formatted presentation, click on the “File” tab and then choose “Save” or “Save As”. Give your presentation a new name if desired and choose a file location to save it to

Body:

  • Demonstrate how to open a saved Microsoft PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the “Design” tab located in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
  • Show students how to choose a new design for the presentation and how to change the background using the “Background Styles” option.
  • Explain that they can also change the layout of each slide by clicking on the slide and then clicking on the “Layout” button in the “Home” tab.
  • Demonstrate how to add images, videos, and text to the presentation using the “Insert” tab.
  • Pass out handouts with instructions on how to format a PowerPoint presentation and have students practice formatting their own presentations.
  • Once they have finished, have them present their presentations to the class.
