Body Systems

Definition

Body systems are groups of organs and tissues that work together to perform important jobs for the body. Some organs may be part of more than one body system if they serve more than one function. Other organs and tissues serve a purpose in only one body system.

1. Respiratory System : It is the system of the body that is responsible for breathing . We breathe in oxygen and we breathe out carbon dioxide . The lungs , nose and the windpipe are all the organs that are responsible for breathing .

.The respiratory system brings air into the body and removes carbon dioxide. It includes the nose, trachea, and lungs. When you breathe in, air enters your nose or mouth and goes down a long tube called the trachea. The trachea branches into two bronchial tubes, or primary bronchi, which go to the lungs

2. Digestive System/Excretory System : This is the process whereby food that we have eaten are broken down into simpler units or forms for easy absorption by the body . We eat food to be alive and healthy . Some foods are good . Some foods are bad for our health . The organs of the body that are involved in the digestion of food are the mouth . the gullet , the stomach . the small intestine and the large intestine . The waste product of digestion are sent out of the body through the anus as feaces

– 3. Cardiovascular/Circulatory System : This is also known as the transportation system of the body as blood transports oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body . The heart is the pumping station of the body and it never rests from birth because it starts pumping blood right from birth . The heart is divided into four parts which are the arteries and the ventricles  .  The arteries takes away blood from the heart while the veins return blood to the heart

4. Muscular system : This is the fleshy part of the body . The muscles are the flesh in our body . The flesh are attached to the bones in our body .

The muscular system is made up of tissues that work with the skeletal system to control movement of the body. Some muscles—like the ones in your arms and legs—are voluntary, meaning that you decide when to move them. Other muscles, like the ones in your stomach, heart, intestines and other organs, are involuntary.

5. Skeletal system : This is the bony framework of the body that gives the body its shape . The skeletons are the bones of the body . There are about 206 bones in the body of a fully grown up adult . A place where two bones meet is called a joint . joints enable movement .

The skeletal system is made up of bones, ligaments and tendons. It shapes the body and protects organs. The skeletal system works with the muscular system to help the body move. Marrow, which is soft, fatty tissue that produces red blood cells, many white blood cells, and other immune system cells, is found inside bones

FUNCTIONS OF CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

Circulatory system:

1.Circulates blood around the body via the heart, arteries and veins, delivering oxygen and nutrients to organs and cells and carrying their waste products away.

2. Keeps the body’s temperature in a safe range.

FUNCTIONS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Brings air into and out of the lungs to absorb oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.

Presentation

The topic is presented step by step

Step 1:

The class teacher revises the previous topics

Step 2.

He introduces the new topic

Step 3:

The class teacher allows the pupils to give their own examples and he corrects them when the needs arise

Conclusion

The class teacher wraps up or conclude the lesson by giving out short note to summarize the topic that he or she has just taught.

The class teacher also goes round to make sure that the notes are well copied or well written by the pupils.

He or she does the necessary corrections when and where  the needs arise.

Evaluation

  • Explain the meaning of the circulatory system
  • Mention four systems in the body
  • Write out the organs of the body that are involved in the digestion of food
  • What is respiration
  • List four systems in the body
