MAINTENANCE OF FLOWERS

Maintaining flowers means taking care of them so that they stay healthy and beautiful. There are a few things you can do to take care of flowers, and I’ll explain them using examples:

  1. Watering: Just like people, flowers need water to survive. You can water them with a watering can or a hose, but be careful not to overwater them. Some flowers need more water than others, so it’s important to know how much water your specific flower needs. For example, sunflowers need a lot of water, while cacti need very little.
  2. Sunlight: Most flowers need sunlight to grow, but some need more sunlight than others. If your flower needs a lot of sunlight, make sure to place it in a sunny spot in your garden or home. For example, marigolds need a lot of sunlight, while impatiens can grow in the shade.
  3. Soil: Flowers need good soil to grow in. Good soil is rich in nutrients, which helps the flowers grow strong and healthy. If your soil is poor, you can add compost or fertilizer to make it better. For example, roses need soil that is rich in nutrients, while succulents can grow in poor soil.
  4. Pruning: Pruning means cutting off parts of the flower that are dead or damaged. This helps the flower stay healthy and also makes it look better. For example, if a rose has a dead branch, you can cut it off so that the rose can focus on growing healthy branches.

Lesson Presentation

Procedure:

Revision of Previous Lesson

Introduction:

  1. Begin the lesson by showing students pictures of different types of flowers.
  2. Ask students if they know the names of any of the flowers and what they look like.
  3. Explain that flowers are living things and just like people, they need certain things to stay healthy and grow.

Body:

  1. Define maintenance of flowers as taking care of flowers so that they stay healthy and beautiful.
  2. Explain the four things that are necessary for maintaining flowers: watering, placing in a sunny spot, using good soil, and pruning.
  3. Demonstrate watering flowers with a watering can or hose and explain that different flowers need different amounts of water.
  4. Show students different types of soil and explain how good soil is rich in nutrients that help flowers grow strong and healthy. Explain that if the soil is poor, fertilizer or compost can be added to make it better.
  5. Demonstrate pruning by showing students how to cut off dead or damaged parts of the flower with pruning shears. Explain that pruning helps the flower stay healthy and look better.
  6. Discuss different types of flowers and their needs. For example, sunflowers need a lot of water, roses need soil that is rich in nutrients, and impatiens can grow in the shade.

Conclusion:

  1. Summarize the four things necessary for maintaining flowers.
  2. Review different types of flowers and their needs.
  3. Ask students if they have any questions or if they can identify any of the flowers shown at the beginning of the lesson.

Assessment:

  • Students can be assessed by answering review questions on the lesson.
  • Students can also be assessed by taking care of a flower at home and reporting back to the class on its progress.
