The rumor which is spreading like wildfire in the harmattan is that a new road which will link the village of koko with charima town is to be constructed. This has been the reason or general feeling of excitement in koko village. The people who are mainly farmers, have been finding it pretty difficult to convey their agricultural produce to the town where they could be sold. They have labored year in, year out with nothing to show for it, as their products end up being wasted.

The construction of the new road will present them with the golden opportunity of transporting their products which includes vegetables, beans, maize and other foodstuffs, to the town which is about thirty kilometers. There they will find a ready market for the products. This road will therefore not only boost the economy of the village, it will also increase the earning power of the villagers. An excited community leader chief Dipreye, recounts up to this moment, the only way we have been able to reach the market has been by a long trek through a narrow path way in the forest. Everything has had to be conveyed to the market by carrying it on the bare head. This means that a farmer has only been able to convey as much product as he can carry. The implication of this is that most of the products of the farmers get destroyed year after year. This is why poverty is a rampant disease all over the village.

However if there is a new road in place, the villagers can purchase a lorry through the farmer’s cooperative society which is already being run and whose chairman is chief Donkwa. The lorry will transport all the farmers` produce to the market for sale. In no distant future the village will be boasting of many millionaires.

At last the rumor has become a reality, machinery and road construction equipment has been brought to the village. The villagers went wild with joy having sighted the equipments. Indeed one could boldly see happiness boldly written on their faces.

One other advantage this road construction has brought along with it is the fact that some of the young men in the village have been employed by the Zima-Zima  company – the road construction company.
