Dialogue on personal hygiene

One day invited a doctor to talk to the pupils on what to do to stay healthy. This is how the talk went.

Pupils: You’re welcome to our school, sir.

Doctor: Thank you.

Pupils: Sir, what can we do to stay healthy?

Doctor: There are many things to do to stay healthy.

Pupils: Can you tell us some of them?

Doctor: Always wash your hands. Brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before you go to bed.

Eat healthy food.

Pupils:: Sir, why do we have to brush our teeth twice a day?

Doctor: To have healthy teeth and stronger gums.

Pupils: What if we just brush once a day?

Doctor: You may have bad breath and weak gums.

Pupils: As from now, sir, we shall be brushing our teeth twice a day.

Doctor: It will be of great benefit to you.

Pupils: Thank you for the talk, sir.

Doctor: Thank you for listening to me.

EXERCISE

State three things mentioned by the doctor that will make us stay healthy.

PERIOD 2

Oral comprehension

Take turns to read a sentence each to the class, while the rest of the class listens.

My sister and I are naughty!

One day when we were 11 and 14 years old, my sister and I took a cigarette from my uncle’s cigarette packet that he had left forgotten on his table. After looking round

to make sure nobody was watching us, we ran excitedly behind a door at the back of our building because we wanted to find out what gave my uncle joy each time he

smoked. You should have seen us laughing nervously, ready to do what my uncle was fond of doing. We lit the cigarette just as he did. We had watched him several times lighting

cigarettes and puffing away stylishly with his legs crossed. My younger sister allowed me to smoke first as the elder. As soon as I smoked and drew the thick smoke in as my uncle did, I quickly threw it down and started coughing, with tears running down my cheeks. I felt as if I wanted to die My sister got all the more excited. She picked up the cigarette from the floor

and puffed it the same way I did. She too held her head and started coughing. We coughed so much that we vomited all we had eaten that day.
