Quantitative Reasoning. Primary 5
Â
Class: Basic 5 Subject: Quantitative Reasoning.
Â
Topic: Mean and mode of set of numbers.
Â
Mean is the average of a given set of numbers.
It is calculated as the sum of the set of numbers divided by numbers in the set.
Â
Mean = Sum of given numbers / Amount of number
Â
Mode is the number that occurs most or appears most.
Â
For example :
1.) Find the mean and mode of these numbers: 2, 1, 2, 1, 4, 2.
Â
Solution:
2+1+2+1+4+2 =12
12 / 6 = 2
The mean is = 2
The mode is = 2, because it appears 3times in the set of numbers.
Â
2.) What is the mean and mode of 3, 4, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 2, 3, 8.
Solution:
3+4+6+3+2+5+4+2+3+8= 40
40 / 10 = 4
The mean is = 4
The mode is = 3, because it occurs most.
Â
Use the examples above to answer the following questions:
Find (a) the mean and (b) the mode of the given sets of numbers below:
Â
1.) 5, 3, 5, 4, 6, 5, 7
Â
2.) 7, 5, 4, 5, 10, 8
Â
3.) 20, 30, 5, 20, 25
Â
4.) 9, 8, 9, 10, 10, 9, 9, 12
Â
5.) 15, 14, 15, 13, 16, 16, 17, 13, 16, 17
