WHAT DAVID VS GOLIATH CAN TEACH YOU ABOUT BRANDING

You probably already know the story. So, let's go with a twist.
A shepherd boy went to visit his soldier brothers in the war camp. He was expecting to meet them "red-handed", with enemies blood splattered all over their faces.
But he was shocked when someone thundered from the enemies' camp, asking for a worthy opponent to face him. This person, Goliath, was a giant towering up to 9 feets.
He had been daring them for days, cursing their God and making jest of their king. But not even the king could step out, and no one seemed to remember they had a God.
Now, here was a shepherd boy who had never killed a human, not to talk of a giant. Yet, he felt like he's got what it takes.
So, he made his intentions known, even against the sharp reprimand of his brothers. The fearful king surrendered his armour and sword to the boy, but they were too heavy.
So, the boy dropped everything, went to war with nothing but his slings, with which he had killed a lion and a bear. He went up and faced an amused giant. He came down with the giant's head.
Now to the lessons:
David was a novice going into a field filled with experienced men. His opponent, Goliath, had been fighting sincerely he was a child. He was used to heavy armours and large swords. David wasn't.
David didn't try to get a bigger armour or a heavier sword. When they wanted to force it upon him, he could barely move. If he had gone to war with them, he would have been slain like a chicken.
What he knew was a sling. He might not have killed a giant or a dwarf. But he had defended his sheep with them and killed wild animals. He was confident in his abilities and he had faith in his God.
But I see people wearing heavy armours today while positioning their brands. I will be more impressed by a slinger who killed a giant than a soldier who wields the largest sword.
Stop competing on pricing. Stop competing on features. Stop trying to be "the best" if you don't want to get frustrated. If there are two things you should do for your brand, they are these:
1. FOCUS ON YOUR SLING;
2. BE DIFFERENT.
